Microbiology Section Director

This position is for the section head of the Clinical Microbiology division of a clinical laboratory located in a 550 bed acute care hospital in Los Angeles, California. Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is located in Torrance, part of the South Bay of Los Angeles County. This position also includes an academic appointment at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA commensurate with experience. Duties include, but are not limited to: interpretation, correlation, and communication of microbiology lab data; consultation regarding medical significance of lab data; monitoring standards of performance, quality control, quality improvement, and review of qc; provision of educational program, planning, research, and development appropriate to section needs; consultation with laboratory clients; selection of test methodology; verification of precision and accuracy of each test; maintenance of a CMS-approved proficiency testing program; and establishment of parameters for acceptable analytic performance.



A doctoral degree in medical microbiology or a closely related field from an accredited college or university -AND- One year of experience at the level of a Clinical Microbiologist I or equivalent in an approved clinical laboratory. The best applicants must be ABMM boarded or eligible.


Licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or a Clinical Microbiologist Scientist issued by the California State Department of Health Services.
